Heirloom Quality Fine Furniture
Our Story
Fine furniture is about more than wood. It is about legacy.
At Fine Woodworking of South Carolina, we believe the furniture we build today should be cherished by families for generations to come. That belief guides every decision we make—from selecting premium hardwoods to crafting traditional joinery and applying a finish that enhances the natural beauty of the wood.
Established in 2013, Fine Woodworking of South Carolina is a family-owned business built upon four generations of furniture-making experience. We combine traditional craftsmanship with thoughtful design to create one-of-a-kind furniture and woodwork that is both beautiful and functional. Every piece is built by hand, one at a time, with the care and attention it deserves. Before it leaves our shop, each piece is personally signed—a quiet promise that it was built with integrity and made to last.
My journey into woodworking began long before Fine Woodworking of South Carolina existed. As a young boy, I watched and learned from my father and grandfather, discovering that working with wood was about much more than making furniture. It was about patience, discipline, problem-solving, and taking pride in doing things the right way.
Over the years, I became a Professional Mechanical Engineer, earned a Master's Degree in Business, and received formal training in traditional 18th-century furniture making. To me, engineering and fine woodworking are not separate disciplines—they are two expressions of the same pursuit: creating something that is both beautiful and enduring.
Engineering taught me to solve problems with precision, to understand structure, proportion, and balance, and to appreciate that every detail has a purpose. Those principles naturally find their way into my furniture. They influence the strength of every joint, the proportions of every design, the comfort of every chair, and the harmony of every piece. Traditional woodworking, on the other hand, taught me that craftsmanship is more than precision. It requires patience, intuition, and a respect for the character of the wood itself.
Where engineering meets art is where I feel most at home. My engineering mind seeks accuracy, strength, and function, while my heart as a furniture maker strives for beauty, warmth, and timeless designs. Together, they shape not only the furniture I build, but who I am as a craftsman.
Along life's journey, I have also faced challenges that changed my perspective forever. As a three-time cancer survivor, I have come to appreciate how precious time truly is. Those experiences strengthened my faith, deepened my gratitude for every day, and reminded me that the things we leave behind should have lasting meaning. That perspective influences every piece I build. My goal has never been simply to make furniture—it has always been to create something worthy of becoming part of a family's story.
My Christian faith has been the foundation which has carried me through life's greatest joys and greatest trials. It reminds me daily that every talent is a gift from God, and every opportunity to serve others is a privilege. I strive to reflect those values by treating people honestly, building furniture with integrity, and pursuing excellence in every project that leaves my shop.
One of the greatest blessings of my career has been sharing the Art of Fine Woodworking with others. Through online courses and free instructional videos on my YouTube channel, I’ve had the opportunity to help woodworkers around the world learn traditional techniques and discover the satisfaction of building something with their own hands.
People often ask who has influenced my woodworking the most. While I owe much to my father, my grandfather, and many talented craftsmen, I have always admired Sam Maloof. His quiet humility, his respect for the craft, and his belief that furniture should be both beautiful and comfortable continue to inspire my work today.
When I'm not in the shop, you'll usually find me spending time with my wife and grandchildren, camping in the mountains of North Carolina or Tennessee, or playing bass guitar—a passion I've enjoyed for more than fifty years.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about my story. It is an honor to build furniture for families who appreciate craftsmanship, value tradition, and want something that will be enjoyed not only today, but by generations yet to come.
